Are you interested in where invasive species have established in Nova Scotia? We have mapped the occurrence of invasive fish, plants and insects to show you where they are and how they spread over time.

Open the map and select the species you wish to view from the list at the top of the screen. The map shows the locations where that species has been detected, and the dot’s colour indicates when it was reported. Select a point on the map to open an informational pop-up window.

Don’t Let It Loose Map

DLIL map

Various invasive species that have established in Nova Scotia’s wild places were released by pet and aquarium owners. Although seemingly harmless at home, these species, such as the Goldfish, can devastate ecosystems and native species in the wild. Check out our Don’t Let it Loose map to learn more about these invasive pets and where they’ve been observed!

To change the species shown in the map, click the layers button at the top right corner of the map (third from the bottom). By clicking the visibility icon to the right of the species name, you can view the locations of different invasive species.

Zebra Mussels:

Small Shell, Big Trouble – An ArcGIS Story Map

Calling for All Hands on Deck! Zebra Mussels are a highly impactful invasive species that have been wreaking havoc on the Great Lakes region since the 1980s. With it making its way to New Brunswick, we’ve created a story map with information on Zebra Mussels, as well as how you can stop them from making their home here in Nova Scotia. Additionally, the embedded map can be used to explore the data showing their spread across Canada.
